*I ruddy love adventure *
Traveling around the world means a lot of flights, which in turn means my own little negative stamp on a world that could do without it.
I have been thinking for a while that I would love to do something to combat that…then came Dave Cornthwaite’s Project Origin.
*The Aim *
His aim is to use adventure to make a difference. Dave wants to build a tribe to plant one million trees, by helping people to #BEGIN and do their own adventures, each one raising at least £500 each to go towards the tree planting venture.
I have volunteered to be the first to #Begin.
I’d already paid for my flights to Madagascar, and erosion of nature and deforestation is rife throughout the entire island. Although Madagascar is home to thousands of plant and animal species there is real threat to the island’s natural biodiversity because of habitat destruction and overexploitation. This makes Madagascar the perfect place for the first journey of the #Begin initiative.
*The Adventure *
At first I got excited and thought I could sea kayak, but if I’m totally honest, the sharks put me off! The infrastructure isn’t quite up to biking standards (by the sounds of it even cars struggle in places) as the “roads” are so bad.
So "I'm heading to Madagascar to trek through the jungle, hiking up rainforest cliffs and waterfalls and exploring remote mountain villages. Along the way I'll be seeing endangered plant and animal species as well as doing what the locals do; travelling aboard crammed, rickety buses and catching little boats across crocodile infested waters.
All in all it’s a brilliant, spontaneous adventure. No car and driver, no guide or standardised tour, no support team or expedition companions, no training or fancy equipment, just a willingness to say ”yes“...
In return for your support in this adventure I will endeavor to take you with me on my adventure into a country where I only speak classroom grade D French, and along the way I will plant the first tree of many.
ALL the money raised goes to charity, every single penny. £1 pays for one tree, and all the training, community bonding, habitat revival, ground strengthening, carbon trapping, life-giving potential that comes with the project. Can you imagine the impact of planting one million trees?! Let’s get started!
*Over to you *
It would be amazing if you could donate, share, like, follow or get involved and #Begin a journey of your own. After all, all life is too short, and lets’ face it, you really should ‘Say Yes More…’
